Above-level Tests

The late Dr. Leta Hollingworth created above-level tests in the early 20th century, sometimes known as the “mother” of the gifted educational system. Younger students take a test, which was designed for older students in order to determine whether a student is eligible to participate in a gifted learning program determining whether the student is ready to undergo acceleration in subject matter, determining what the student is ready to learn next, or deciding whether a student is prepared to skip a class or move on to the next grade.

Above-level tests are a vital method of evaluating the academic needs of gifted students. A precise and accurate assessment of students’ knowledge will ensure that talented pupils are challenged at schools and taught only the things they aren’t already aware of.

Testing at the Above Level is Critical for College and Career Success
Students who take advantage of opportunities to test at the above-level can improve their college and career prospects. These tests provide a way for students to demonstrate their mastery of challenging material and can help them find unique pathways to success.

The best way to prepare for these tests is to learn as much as possible. Practice makes perfect, so try to take practice tests as often as possible. Working with a tutor or teacher who can help you understand the material is also a great option. Finally, be sure to stay focused throughout the testing process; mistakes made in one section can have a ripple effect on other sections of the test.
